Investing in the Kitchener-Waterloo Community: A Top Priority for Mortgage Architects
January 24 2019     Posted by Tracy Bennett

It doesn’t have to be the season of giving for Tracy Bennett and our team at Kitchener-Waterloo’s Mortgage Architects to make a difference; giving all year long is part of our company’s culture, and many in the community laud the impact we’ve had.

Seeing a need—and then filling that need—come naturally to Tracy. She says it’s just something she does without a second thought, and the Kitchener-Waterloo Region is certainly all the better for it.

The following organizations are important to Tracy and our team for a variety of reasons, but they all have a common goal: to foster growth, education, and a more vibrant, connected community.

Hospital Activity Guide for Children at Grand River Hospital: Treating over 20,000 children each year, Grand River Hospital is happy to receive donations that support its programs for making hospital visits less scary for their patients. Some facts about the hospital:

  • More than 4,100 babies are born at GRH every year.

  • More than 600 of the smallest newborns may require specialized care in their neonatal intensive care unit.

  • Nearly 15,000 children receive emergency care at GRH annually.

  • GRH has a children’s program that provides services to those who have to stay in the hospital for a period of time, as well as specialized clinics for children with cancer, cystic fibrosis, juvenile diabetes, and other diseases.

  • GRH runs the largest hospital-based youth mental health program in the region, and admits children and youth for overnight stays in its child and adolescent inpatient psychiatric unit. Daytime appointments are also available.

Mortgage Architects are delighted to provide gift bags and activity books for children at a time when they aren’t feeling their best. These donations help spread a little joy to the brave young patients at Grand River Hospital.

sport teach children

Waterloo Minor Baseball Association — the Waterloo Tigers: Sponsoring a team through the Waterloo Minor Baseball Association gives 900 children in the Kitchener-Waterloo Region the ability to engage in productive organized activities. This goes far beyond just playing baseball; it teaches children the value of community, teamwork, commitment, and dedication. With some of the highest diamond costs in Ontario, WMBA needs assistance from community and corporate members to ensure that all children who want to play have the chance to do so.

Here are some ways that you can help:

  • Sponsor a House League Division - $2,000

Every player in the division (6-10 teams per division) will have your company’s name on their jersey. WMBA places your sponsorship with a team in each division from T-Ball through Mosquito (ages 6-11)

  • Sponsor a REP Tier I or Tier II Team (travel teams) - $625

  • Sponsor a House League Tournament - $500

  • Sponsor a House League Team - $350

Every player on a team will have your company’s name on their jersey (colours of your choice), plus your name will appear in the KWMBA Player Handbook.

  • Individual Gifts - Your donation allows a young person with financial needs to register in our athletic program.

The Food Bank of Waterloo Region: Did you know that one in twenty households in the Waterloo Region requires food assistance? The Food Bank of Waterloo Region provides more than just food; it offers shelter, nutrition outreach, counselling, and connection with other aid services. The organization is also a source of reliable information about hunger and food assistance. Tens of thousands of individuals are served by its Community Food Assistance Network each year.

There are many opportunities to get involved, both as individuals and corporations. Volunteering your time is one way, and the Food Bank is grateful for any and all support. Raising funds or gathering food through corporate initiatives is also a positive way to contribute to this much-needed and worthy organization. Visit their website for more information on getting involved and feeding those in need.

Region of Waterloo Swim Club — Dash for Cash: With its mission to give athletes the opportunity to reach their maximum potential, the Region of Waterloo Swim Club (ROW):

  • Provides optimum instruction, training, and competition for each swimmer, novice to champion.

  • Instills an appreciation of commitment, dedication, and discipline in the pursuit of personal goals.

  • Encourages a high degree of sportsmanship and team spirit.

  • Offers opportunities for positive social interaction and emotional growth.

Consistently ranked among the top 10 swim clubs in Ontario, ROW swimmers have qualified for many major international games, including the Olympics (seven medals have been won over the years), World Championships, Pan American Games, and Commonwealth Games.

Mortgage Architects are proud to be a sponsor of the Dash for Cash, a meet in which finalists can win monetary prizes. Ensuring that young people have access to sports is important, and events like this encourage and support athletes while rewarding them for their hard work and dedication. Other ways you can help the team are through numerous

volunteer positions as well.

Make-a-Wish® Foundation: The Make-a-Wish® Foundation fulfills the dreams of children living with life-threatening medical conditions so that their lives will be enriched with the human experience of hope, strength, and joy. To that end, Mortgage Architects have embarked on a campaign to fund as many wishes as possible. With a goal of $100,000, we’re nearly at the halfway mark, having raised over $45,000 this year. The importance of the Make-a-Wish® Foundation in the lives of critically ill children can’t be overstated, and Mortgage Architects are doing what we can to bring joy to as many children as possible.

The Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC) of Waterloo Region: The mission of the SASC is to support survivors of sexual violence—to listen, facilitate healing, and celebrate resiliency. The organization strives to transform systems that promote gender-based violence and create a world free of sexual assault and oppression.

SASC services include:

Mortgage Architects make annual donations to the SASC to help support the mission and vision of this remarkable and important organization.
